I was born and raised in Lunigiana. When in 2014 I decided to get the taxi license from the municipality of Pontremoli, I didn't do it as a fallback — I did it because I wanted to stay in my own territory and do it in the way that suits me best: meeting people, getting to know their stories, driving them where they need to go. To me a taxi isn't just a vehicle. It's a piece of public service that holds a valley together.

Over twelve years a lot has changed. At first I mostly did local rides: the elderly lady going to the doctor, the student catching a train, the occasional transfer to Milan or Genoa. Then came the Apennine cyclists, the German tourists who wanted to see the Cinque Terre without renting a car, the families looking for a comfortable and safe trip all the way to Germany or Switzerland. I changed vehicles, moved up to the 8-seater Peugeot Traveller, fitted the Thule bike rack, learned to handle catamarans and caravans. The work grew with the requests.

What hasn't changed — and won't change — is the way I work. I'm punctual because whoever gets in my taxi is almost always chasing something important: a flight, an appointment, a deadline. I'm discreet because people talk in the car, and what's said isn't my business. I know the roads because I've been driving them since before GPS units existed, and GPS units often get it wrong. And I adapt, because every trip is different — there's no such thing as a standard ride.
